Structural Mechanics and Strength of Material Lab: One of the major labs in the CE department is the Strength of Materials lab, also referred to as the SM lab. The lab was created in the Fall of 2024 and is utilized by departmental faculty and students for testing, research, and instruction. The ideas covered in theoretical courses on strength of materials serve as the foundation for the experiments conducted in this lab.Tension tests of mild steel, compression tests of wood, metallic springs, direct shear tests of wood and metal specimens, beam bending tests, impact tests of metal specimens, buckling and torsion tests, and tension and hardness tests of metal specimens are currently conducted in this lab.
Geo-Technical Engineering Lab: The foundation and soil on which majority civil engineering projects are built determine their stability and appropriate operation. Because there are a multitude of different kinds of soil accessible, it is crucial to understand their mechanical and physical characteristics through a range of tests. These include strength, permeability, density, texture, appearance and other significant characteristics. These characteristics are the focus of the tests conducted in the department's Geotechnical Engineering Lab.Since the Fall 2024, the Geotechnical Engineering lab has been running at City University.Currently third-year students can enroll in a sessional course in soil mechanics that includes ten experiments on different geotechnical characteristics. Field identification tests, Atterberg's Limit testing, specific gravity and relative density tests, compaction tests, particle size distribution by sieve analysis, and hydrometer analysis of soil samples are some of the laboratory studies on general soil properties. The permeability testing device is also used for soil permeability tests.
Transportation Engineering Lab: Since the Fall of 2024 the Transportation and Traffic Engineering Laboratory of the CE department has been in operation. The laboratory's primary goal was to provide third year students with a sessional course in Transportation Engineering, but it also has research resources for both students and teachers. Both materials and traffic engineering have been included in the lab since they are components of the larger discipline of transportation engineering. The staff and students in the department focus on traffic capacity measurements in addition to testing transportation materials like bitumen, aggregate, and subgrade.
Environmental Engineering Lab: The Environmental Engineering Laboratory provides academics and students with research and testing facilities in addition to sessional courses. This lab was created relatively early in the department and has been running since Fall 2024 because the department has historically placed a special emphasis on environmental courses.Currently the lab offers fifteen environmental engineering studies mostly related to sound pollution and water quality. PH, hardness, turbidity, carbon dioxide, total solids, dissolved solids, suspended particles, chlorine concentration, iron concentration, alkalinity, chemical coagulation, residual chlorine, and chlorine demand are all included in the water quality investigations.
Survey Equipements: The CE department has been providing first-year students with courses in theoretical and practical surveying since its founding. The department now provides ten fieldwork opportunities for practical surveys and has all the supplies needed.Chain surveys, traverse surveys, plane tabling, leveling and contouring, height measurements, area calculations, curve setting, home setting, and route surveys are among the tests carried out. The theodolite, level, plane table, and any other attachments are the main pieces of equipment.
Computer Lab: Students can use the department's Computer Laboratory which has roughly forty desktops a printer and internet access. Programming, research, report writing, drafting, internet browsing, and other tasks are all done in this lab. For first year students the department offers an introductory course on computer applications and computer-based drawing (AutoCAD) for second-year students it offers a computer programming course using C++ and for final year students,it offers a computer application course in CE. This lab offers all of these courses. The lab's computers are outfitted with software that is useful for civil engineering, especially for the department's courses and research. These include Microsoft Project, AutoCAD,C,ETABS,STAAD.Pro etc.
